Some people call ignorance a bliss. However, the bible warns us against it in this verse:
2 Corinthians 2:11 "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices."
The enemy is very cunning, and so we if we are ignorant of his devices, be sure he will gain an advantage over us. But as long as we are not ignorant of his devices, he could not gain advantage over us easily. However, if we look at what happened throughout history, we will find that the Devil has been gaining advantage over mankind. That means that mankind on the overall has been getting more and more dumb. How did this happen?
Genesis 3:1 "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"
The bible tells us that the Devil is a serpent: that means he moves in imperceptible steps. The serpent is very subtil. He knows that a change can only develop by taking one imperceptible step at a time. He knows to operate in stages. Each change must be layered on top of what already exists and integrally wired to it. One inch forward will lead to another. One victory achieved will compound on another. He also knows to leverage on the power of the majority. Once a lie becomes the mainstream, it becomes the truth acknowledged by the great majority. Little by little, and through the power of the majority, he gains access to the church of the living God to undermine the source of truth, and to extinguish the light of the world.
Romans 1:25 "Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."
There are things taking place in the background, subtly, to bring about a change, and they are happening “while men slept.” (Matthew 13:25) Paul reveals that as the “mystery of iniquity doth already work” in 2 Thessalonians 2:7. That is how the Devil works to permanently change the truth of God into a lie, by taking one imperceptible step at a time, corrupting it slowly. True history must be rejected little by little. True biblical doctrines must be rejected little by little, and the bible gradually re-interpreted based on a system of philosophy to introduce an altered form of gospel, which carries with it a new “message.” Paul warns:
1 Thessalonians 5:6-7 "Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night."
Most people are still sleeping. They don’t know what is going on in the background, and before they gets awakened from their sleep, they would have already been tightly coiled in the deathly grip of the great serpent. It is too late. That is how Satan has gained advantage of us over the years, because of our ignorance of his devices. But we are not without hope, as long as we still have the light of the word of God with us, and as long as we still have the “prudent” with us. The bible tells us in this verse:
Proverbs 14:18 "The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge."
A prudent man is a wise man according to these two verses:
Proverbs 16:21 "The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning."
Proverbs 18:15 "The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge."
Notice that the prudent man is always seeking knowledge to increase in learning? That means he will do research. He will study a matter carefully and derive insight from it. He is not satisfied to take things at face value, but will seek to understanding things at a deeper level. That’s how he is “crowned with knowledge” according to Proverbs 14:18.
Proverbs 14:15 "The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going."
The words “looketh well to his going” means the prudent has eyes to see what’s taking place in the background, while the simple man being the opposite of the prudent, means that those things are hidden from him: he could not see what the prudent man could see, because spiritual things must be spiritually discerned according to 1 Corinthians 2:14. That’s why the simple-minded will always take things at face value, because he can’t see what he can’t see.
Proverbs 27:12 "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished."
Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 2:14 that “the wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness.” That is a reference to the prudent man who has a pair of eyes in his head that allows him to see things that the simple-minded could not. That’s how he is able to foresee the evil, and hideth himself, whereas the simple who believeth every word that comes from the government, the mainstream media, or their pastors and other Christians without cross-checking from the word of God, will pass on and be punished for their ignorance.
Proverbs 8:5 "O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart."
An understanding heart is required to understand wisdom, and that is something that the simple-minded does not delight in. Without an understanding heart, he could not perceive the things that the prudent man could see with the eyes of his mind. Proverbs 12:15 tells us that "the way of a fool is right in his own eyes," and that is precisely why the simple-minded will reject wisdom, because he is essentially a fool.
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
It is easy to deceive the simple-minded man, because he will believe every word from anyone whom he perceives as authority. As long as the word comes from the government, the media or his pastor or other Christians, he will gladly accept it without question. He has no need to search out a matter from the word of God because he always goes by his heart, which is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.
Isaiah 5:21 "Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!"
The simple-minded man is wise in his own eyes, and prudent in his own sight. That is because pride has blinded him, which according to Obadiah 1:3 “the pride of thine heart hath deceived thee,” so that he could not see the narrow way that leadeth to life and blessing. That’s why Isaiah used the words “woe unto them,” because they are the ones going on the broad way that leadeth to death and cursing, yet being totally unaware.
Proverbs 25:2 "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.”
The truth is not important for the simple-minded man, and so he has no need to search it out. For the prudent man however, it is an honour that God has bestowed upon him as a “king” to search out a matter. That’s why it is in the nature of every truly born again bible-believing Christian to study to gain insight into something, lest Satan should get an advantage of us.
2 Thessalonians 2:10 "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved."
The difference between the saved and the lost is in the words “love of the truth” as Paul has laid out in this verse, Jesus being “the truth” in John 14:6. The truth is also a reference to every word of God in the 66 books of the Holy Bible, and it is by the love of “the truth” (Jesus) that sets apart the prudent man from the simple. The prudent man is a “king” in Proverbs 25:2 who will “search out a matter,” and his Lord and Saviour is Jesus Christ, the “King of kings, and Lord of lords.” (1 Timothy 6:15)
John 5:39 "¶ Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."
Scriptures in the context of this verse is the written word of God. The prudent man will search the written word of God for the things that God has concealed within, and the Spirit of God will show him “the way” that leadeth to life, Jesus being “the way” in John 14:6. He could see “the way” because his eyes have been opened to see Jesus in every word of God in the 66 books of the Holy Bible.
Hebrews 12:2 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Many Christians like to quote this verse, and then ask you to “keep your eyes on Jesus” in an idolatrous manner, parroting one after another. That is exactly what’s in the mind of the simple man, who may call himself a Christian, but in actuality, is no more than an idolator. Referring to the scribes, the Pharisees and the Jews with them, Jesus tells us:
Matthew 15:14 "Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."
That's what the simple man is like. He is a blind who will follow the blind, as opposed to the prudent man whose eyes are fixated on every word of God in the 66 books of the Holy Bible. The simple man who has no need for the word of God, has no love of “the truth” (Jesus) in him. All his “itching ears” (2 Timothy 4:3) want is some Christian leaders constantly reassuring him that he is a saved child of God “destined to reign” (Joseph Prince's book "Destined to Reign") after he prayed that sinner’s prayer one time in the church.
Hi! I believe by letting the concept of evil occupy space within in my mind, I become susceptible to evil and the machinations of Satan. I concentrate on good, love and happiness. I strive to be prudent and learn enough to someday be wise. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you also for such clarity in exposition. It’s like water to a thirsty woman or man; I often feel a certain misunderstanding with others and find that many do not study the Bible to understand it’s application to knowing Truth. I love John 1:1 (which you used in another teaching) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Because for a reason it grounds me. This report today is again, grounding the faith and such a stronghold for this life. May God continue to pour out His wisdom and discernment upon you (I pray this for me as well); and thank you for all the time and effort to give us this spiritual food for our/my journey. I fail every day on my journey with the responsibility of caregiving etc., your words are a strength and provide further guidance to my journey in Christ.
