John 6:64-69 "But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66 ¶ From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God."
“This is an hard saying; who can hear it?” according to the disciples in John 6:60. How many will believe? How many will repent? Afterwards, the disciples "went back, and walked no more with him…" (verse 66) They were fallen off from Christ, even as branches are fallen from the true vine (John 15:1). It is to be noted that these people had just witnessed the miracle of the five loaves and two fishes, yet they believe not.
The few who continue to believe are like Simon Peter who said “Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” These are the few who made it through the trial of faith, and they continue to walk with Christ, all the while watching their families and friends walk away from them.
It is no accident that I have lost a number of friends due to my stand on the perfect Bible and some other doctrinal issues. Is it worth losing earthly things for the gospel's sake?
Mark 10:28-31 "¶ Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first."
Therefore, my answer to this question is a 'Yes'. In fact, it is expected to happen to every born again believer according to:
1 John 3:13 "Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you."
The reason why we must be prepared to lose friends and relationships is because it is of utmost importance to the Lord that the true gospel must continue in every truly born again believer. Every born again believer must be about the Father's business.
Galatians 2:4-5 "And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: 5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you."
If the truth of the gospel cannot be continued in a believer, the kingdom of God is inadvertently shut off from this world. That's why it is the utmost mission of the Devil to try to destroy the real Holy Bible and displace it from churches forever. He use "false brethren unawares brought in" to help him accomplish that goal.
Genesis 3:7 "And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons."
Matthew 5:20 "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven."
There is a form of "righteousness" in the teachings of the scribes and the Pharisees, but it is not the perfect righteousness of the Lamb that clothe a born again believer. The keyword here is "Churchianity" as opposed to "Christianity". The idea is to cause an implosion from within the church by introducing false bibles which add unto and take away from the word of God to cause confusion, on top of the strange doctrines that they teach in tandem with the false bibles.
1 John 2:19 "They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us."
The true gospel is only found in the true Bible, the Holy Bible which the majority of the Christians hate and despise, and the wicked have made it their utmost mission to remove the true Bible from the church. These are the false brethren which Apostle Paul has repeatedly warned us against. We ought not to have any fellowships with them, no, not for an hour so that the truth of the gospel might continue with us.
They also are trying to change The True Holy Name of Jesus ( God) from the true gospel only found in the One True Holy Bible, which the false brethren and wicked hate and despise.
