Matthew 22:11-14 "¶ And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen."
Notice the words "how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment" in this passage of scripture? A wedding garment tells us something about a marriage taking place. This connects to:
Revelation 19:7-9 "Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God."
This passage of scripture tells us that the marriage of the Lamb will be taking place. The words "Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb" tells us that there will be many guests that will be called to the marriage supper of the Lamb. This connects to:
Zephaniah 1:7-8 "Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests. 8 And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD’S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel."
Notice the term "day of the LORD?" The marriage of the Lamb will take place at the day of the LORD, for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, and he hath bid his guests. But then, not every guest will have a wedding garment put on them, which according to Revelation 19:8, is the "righteousness of saints." Rather, they were clothed with "strange apparel."
Matthew 22:13-14 "Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen."
Many are called, but few are chosen. For the guests that came to the marriage supper of the Lamb without the "fine linen, clean and white," their end would be to be cast into "outer darkness," where there shall be "weeping and gnashing of teeth." In fact, we also find these words being mentioned in:
Matthew 24:51 "And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
This is part of the the end times prophecy in relation to the Lord's 2nd Coming, and the context of this verse is given in Matthew 24:42 "¶ Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come." However, notice the words "and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites?" The word "hypocrite" would tell us where "outer darkness" is.
Job 8:13 "So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish:"
Hypocrites, by definition of this verse, means "all that forget God." There is a word-for-word connection to:
Psalms 9:17 "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God."
Job 20:5 "That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?"
Hypocrites are "the wicked" according to the faithful witness of these two verses, and their end is that they shall be turned into hell.
Job 15:34 "For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery."
The "congregation of hypocrites" connects to "all the nations that forget God" in Psalms 9:17. Therefore, the end of those who came to the marriage supper of the Lamb without a wedding garment, when the Lord shall return in the day of the LORD, shall be cast into "outer darkness" (hell) where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, and fire shall consume their tabernacles of bribery.
Matthew 8:11-12 "And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, and the wicked (hypocrites) shall see it from outer darkness, and be grieved, for their "desire" to sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven shall perish, because they have not sought the Lord by faith, but have climbed up into the sheepfold by some other way, as a thief and a robber. (John 10:1)
Psalms 112:10 "The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish."
When the Rich Man of Luke 16 was having his best life now (Joel Osteen's book "Your best life now"), he wasn't thinking about his future in the pit of hell, where the worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched. The Bible tells us that in hell, he could see Abraham and Lazarus afar off, as in:
Luke 16:23-26 "And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom… 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence."
In fact, there was a great gulf fixed between where Abraham and Lazarus were, and hell where the Rich Man was, being tormented in fire, and none could pass from one end to the other. Psalms 112:10 tells us that “the wicked shall see it, and be grieved.” That is exactly what happened to the Rich Man who saw Lazarus from afar, and was grieved, and he gnashed with his teeth. This is just like the “children of the kingdom” in Matthew 8:12 when they shall be cast into outer darkness, and they shall see many from the east and the west sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, and there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
