This article is a continuation from Pharaoh King of Egypt (Part 4) where I have expounded from scripture the day of the LORD and how God is going to deal with Gog of Ezekiel 38-39 on that day. In this post, I will continue my study on the day of the LORD based on the accounts other scriptures in the Holy Bible. Previously, I had stopped at Zechariah 14 describing the day of the LORD:
Zechariah 14:1-3 "Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. 2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle."
Zechariah tells us that the day of the LORD will be a day when God shall gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle. What are those nations? According to the accounts of Ezekiel 38:3-6, Gog the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal would come against the people of God together with Persia, Ethiopia, Libya, Gomer and all his bands, and the house of Togarmah of the north quarters and all his bands. Those would be the nations that God shall gather against Jerusalem to battle. The psalmist tells us in:
Psalms 83:3-4 "They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. 4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance."
These nations have conspired against God’s people to cut them off from being a nation, so that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.
Psalms 83:5-8 "For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: 6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; 7 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; 8 Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah."
The nations that are confederate against the people of God mentioned in the list of nations in Ezekiel 38:3-6 would include those from [1] the tabernacles of Edom, the Ismaelites; [2] of Moab, and the Hagarenes; [3] Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; [4] the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; [5] Assur (they have holpen the children of Lot.)
Psalms 2:2-3 "The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us."
These are the nations that have set themselves against the LORD and against his anointed, and they were led by the kings of the earth and rulers of this world who have consulted with one consent to cut off God’s people from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. Notice their words in Psalms 2:3 “Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us?" That is to say, God’s people is that nation that is putting a yoke on all those nations, so that they could not have a free pass in doing the lusts of their father, the Devil, “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” (John 10:10)
2 Corinthians 3:17 "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
For where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Liberty is freedom from tyranny. There is liberty in a nation when the Spirit of the Lord is present, so that those in the positions of power and authority could not steal, kill and destroy as they wish. The Devil could not have a free pass to steal, kill and destroy when the Spirit of the Lord is present. That’s why the kings of the earth and the rulers of this world have taken crafty counsel against God’s people to cut them off from being a nation, as they themselves are being under the influence of spirits of devils:
Revelation 16:13-14 "And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty."
These spirits of devils which go forth unto the kings of the earth, as revealed by Apostle Paul would be:
Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
There are four groups of devils, not of flesh and blood, which Paul revealed in this verse as: principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. God’s nation consist of the body of born again believers, and as born again believers, we wrestle against those evil entities putting on the “whole armour of God,” (Ephesians 6:11) consisting of these seven items:
loins girt about with truth;
breastplate of righteousness;
feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
shield of faith;
helmet of salvation;
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
prayer and supplication in the Spirit.
2 Thessalonians 2:6-8 "And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:"
However, the time will come when the Spirit of the Lord will be taken out of the way in the “falling away” (2 Thessalonians 2:3), and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition (Gog) who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming in the day of the LORD. Continuing from Zechariah 14:3 where I’ve stopped:
Zechariah 14:4-5 "¶ And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee."
When Jesus shall returned in the day of the LORD, his feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split toward the east and towards the west, and there shall be a very great valley where God’s people (saints) shall flee into as in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, which Amos 1:1 also references.
Zechariah 14:12 "¶ And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth."
All the people that have fought against Jerusalem would be Gog and his armies that God has gathered to the battle. The phrase “consume away” is a reference to 2 Thessalonians 2:8 when the Lord shall “consume” the Wicked with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming according to Paul. Gog and all the nations that come against Israel would be consumed away while they stand upon their feet.
Zechariah 14:13 "And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour."
This verse is basically a reference to:
Ezekiel 38:21 "And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man’s sword shall be against his brother."
The great tumult from the LORD is the sword that God shall call against Gog and his armies, that they shall end up destroying each other, like how the LORD turned the children of Ammon and Moab against Amalek in 2 Chronicles 20:23-24. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done. (Eccelesiastes 1:9) To continue in Part 6.
