Proverbs 12:12 "The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit."
This verse tells us that the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit, and it is connected in the opposite sense to the desires of the wicked (opposite of the righteous).
Desires speak of the heart as in:
Psalms 37:4 "Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."
Romans 10:1 "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved."
This is the Bible connecting Proverbs 12:12 to the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13, Mark 4 and Luke 8). Proverbs 12:12 tells us that the heart of the wicked desires "the net of evil men". What is "the net of evil men"?
Ecclesiastes 7:26 "And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her."
This verse tells us that there is a “woman” whose heart is snares and nets. Again, this verse is the Bible comparing the righteous to the wicked, as in “whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.” The desire of the righteous is to escape from her, but the wicked shall be taken by her.
Proverbs 1:17 “Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.”
The net of evil men is used to catch men, as much as a net is used to catch birds.
Proverbs 22:3 “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.”
The righteous foreseeth the evil and hideth himself, but the wicked who desires the net of evil men pass on and are punished. This verse calls the righteous “prudent” and the wicked “simple”.
Proverbs 6:23-26 “For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: 24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. 25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. 26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.”
The adulteress will hunt for the precious life, and this adulteress is the strange woman which flattereth with her words. She is the same woman in Ecclesiastes 7:26 whose heart is snares and nets. She will entice men with her beauty, and the Bible warns us against it. Whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her.
What will please God?
Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
The Bible tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Without faith in every word of God it is impossible to please God. Recall:
Proverbs 12:12 "The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit."
The root of the righteous yieldeth fruit. Faith is the evidence of fruit in the heart of a born again believer.
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Read “What is faith?” in this article. In the parable of the Sower, Jesus compares the hearts of men to four types of ground:
The wayside ground.
The stony ground.
The thorny ground.
The good ground.
Of all the ground types, only the good ground is capable of producing fruit by the seed which is sown in it.
Luke 8:11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.”
The seed is the word of God according to this verse. Therefore, only the good ground heart which desires the word of God is capable of producing faith, but the rest of the heart types which desire the “net of evil men” will not produce faith, and without faith, it is impossible to please God. Therefore, God will give them over to the strange woman:
2 Thessalonians 2:10-11 “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:”
God shall send them strong delusion so that they should believe in a lie, because they receive not the love of the truth that they might be saved.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
God gave the world his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish. This goes to show that the ones who believeth not every word of God shall be taken by the woman whose heart is snares and nets. Why? Because these people inwardly desires “the net of the wicked”.
Ezekiel 14:2-4 “And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them 4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; Ithe LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;”
They put a stumbling block of their iniquity because they love the flattery of the strange woman more than the word of God. Though outwardly religious, these religious hypocrites who love not the truth (every word of God) shall be given over to strong delusions that they should perish. Ezekiel tells us that they have secretly set up idols in their hearts. Therefore, God will answer them according to the multitude of their idols so that they should believe in a lie.
