Study on Daniel 9:26 "... unto the end of the war desolations are determined."
MP3 article voiceover included.
This article continues from where I have left off in my study on Daniel 9:24-26, where I have reasoned from scripture, how the period of seventy weeks (70 weeks = 490 days) was actually a 490 years sabbath (Numbers 14:34 “each day for a year”) in preparation of a new beginning to be marked by the advent of Jesus Christ as the Saviour of the world, and how the new covenant was established based on God the Father giving his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, as the Lamb of God “… to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.” (Daniel 9:24)
Daniel 9:26 "And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined."
In my last article, I have partially covered the study of this verse, up to the part where I have shown from scripture the calculation of the “threescore and two weeks,” or sixty-two weeks (62 weeks = 434 days), counting from the point where Jerusalem was restored and the temple rebuilt in preparation for the advent of Jesus Christ as the Messiah, to 434 years later when he was crucified as the Lamb of God offered up for the sins of mankind (“not for himself”). Then, it goes on to say “and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.” At this point, however, I want to bring your attention to the colon (‘:’) in this verse, which is use to denote an elaboration of the prior statement. So, in that sense, “… shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself:” tells us why the city and the sanctuary was destroyed, and that was because of Israel’s rejection of their Messiah, leading up to his crucifixion. Isaiah tells us what happened to Jesus at the cross:
Isaiah 53:4-9 "¶ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth."
Daniel 9:26 tells is it is “not for himself” that he was cut off out of the land of the living. Isaiah 53 tells us that he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; and how he was wounded for our transgressions, and bruised for our iniquities; and how the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all; and how he was oppressed, and was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; and how for the transgression of God’s people, he was cut off from the land of the living; and how he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death. Paul tells us:
1 Corinthians 2:7-8 "But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory."
What happened to Jesus was actually the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the the hidden wisdom, which God had ordained before the world unto our glory. In fact, none of the devilish powers of this world knew: for if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Messiah, and if they have not crucified the Messiah, then we would not have the new covenant. Daniel 9:26 tells us “and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.” Those would be the people of the prince of this world, the Devil, according to these verses:
John 12:31 "Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out."
John 14:30 "Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me."
John 16:11 "Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged."
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:7-8 that it was the princes of this world that crucified Jesus. He further elaborates in:
Ephesians 2:2 "Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:"
The prince of the power of the air is an evil spirit, So, it was the princes of this world, evil spirits working through the children of disobedience, that crucified the Lamb of God Jesus Christ. They thought they had the victory after they crucified him. Yet, none of those evil spirits knew that it was God’s plan for his only begotten Son to die in this manner for the sins of the whole world, for if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. Paul tells us in this verse:
Colossians 2:15 "And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."
The principalities and powers are the princes of this world in 1 Corinthians 2:7-8 that caused the children of disobedience to crucify the Lord Jesus Christ. They are the same entities spoken of by Paul in:
Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
They are no “flesh and blood” people, but spiritual entities which Paul reveals as principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. Paul tells us in this verse that they are the true enemies of mankind, and what happened in 1 Corinthians 2:7-8 was God having spoiled them, and made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it when they caused the Lord Jesus Christ to be crucified. So, when the bible tells us in Daniel 9:26 that the people of the prince of this world shall come and destroy the city and the sanctuary, it was the Devil working through the people and caused them to come and destroy the city and the sanctuary, just like how it happened with the crucifixion of the Lamb of God Jesus Christ.
The bible tells us:
Matthew 24:1-2 "And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down."
Jesus prophesied in this passage of scripture of the destruction of the city and the sanctuary in accordance with Daniel 9:26, which shall take place after the Messiah was cut off. From historical sources, that happened in AD 70 in an event known as the “Siege of Jerusalem,” years after Jesus was crucified. The Siege of Jerusalem was a decisive event of the first Jewish-Roman war in which the Roman army, led by the future emperor (Titus), besieged Jerusalem. Following a five-month siege, the Romans destroyed the city, including the second Jewish temple which Jesus prophesied that it would happen. Linking this back to Daniel 9:26 “and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary,” that means the people of the prince who came and destroyed the city and the sanctuary were the Romans, whose prince was none other than the Devil himself. Continuing from Daniel 9:26 “… and the end thereof shall be with a flood,” where else do we find the term “flood” mentioned, link to the end of the world? Consider these verses:
Genesis 6:13 "And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth."
Genesis 6:17 "And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die."
Jesus connects the day of his coming to the days of Noah in Matthew 24:37-39. The bible tells us that man was made in the image of God, but it was during the days of Noah when the genes of mankind were corrupted when the sons of God (fallen angels) took them wives of the daughters of men, and produced giants. We read that in Genesis 6:4. Though born of women, giants were genetically diverse from mankind, their genetic makeup having been altered with the genes of angelic beings. We saw that in David versus Goliath. Goliath was a remnant of the giants, a distant offspring of the sons of God and the daughters of men. Bodily wise, he was much bigger and stronger than a normal human being. Paul tells us in this passage of scripture:
1 Corinthians 15:39-40 "All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. 40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another."
All flesh is not the same flesh: the genetic makeup of man is different from the genetic makeup of angelic beings. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. Giants were the products of a spiritual body and a natural body. Genetically-speaking, they were the mingling of the seed of men with the seed of angelic beings. It happened in the days of Noah, but we also find the evidence of that in:
Daniel 2:43 "And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay."
Daniel tells us that in the last days, the “seed of men” will once again be tampered with. Jesus confirms that in Matthew 24:37 that as the days of Noah were, so shall the coming of the Son of man be. Moreover, Jesus added in the next verse that “for as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage.” The entire world would be oblivious to the great danger that will be coming upon them. All, except for the few Noahs left in our generation, will be doing what Noah was doing before the flood came. The bible calls Noah a “preacher of righteousness” in:
2 Peter 2:5 "And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;"
What was Noah doing in his days? The bible tells us he was preaching God's judgment and his righteousness. In fact, for the last 120 years before the Great Flood, Noah has been preaching to the people around him and warning them of the coming judgment and God’s righteousness to deliver them. He has been telling everyone of God's pending judgment, all the while building the ark in their sight, yet no one believed him up to the very last day. The people continued to be busy eating, drinking, marrying wives, and be given in marriage, and paid no heed to Noah’s warning. As a result, the flood came and carried them all away. The writer of Hebrews tells us:
Hebrews 11:7 "By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith."
Likewise for the Noahs of the end time generation, they will be busy preparing an ark for the saving of their “house.” Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 3:15 that the “house of God” is the church of the living God, and the church of the living God is made up of people. Our body is the “temple of God,” a term which Paul refers to in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. The fight in the last days will be the same as that in the days of Noah. It will be a fight for the preservation of our body, the temple of God. We read in:
Genesis 6:9 "¶ These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God."
This verse tells us that Noah was a just man and perfect in his GENE-rations, and he walked with God. Notice how “gene” is embedded in the word “generations?” The next verse goes on to say that Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth, and later in Genesis 9:19, the bible tells us that after the flood destroyed all flesh wherein is the breath of life, including the giants that came from the sons of God and the daughters of men, it was from Noah’s three sons and their wives that the whole earth was once again overspread. God destroyed the corruptions and repopulated the earth with the pure seed of men. Yet, Jesus tells us in Matthew 24:27 that the days will come when what happened in the days of Noah will be repeated in the coming of the Son of man. Just like Noah, God’s elect people will be going through what Noah had experienced before the flood. They would not only be preachers of righteousness in a sinful world, shining brightly as little lights of the world, they would also be busy preparing an ark for the saving of their “house,” the temple of God.
Daniel continues in Daniel 9:26 “… and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.” The bible tells us in this verse that a “war” will continue until the end, when the desolations shall be determined. The word “desolation” is used to describe the state of devastation or ruin, and we have an example of that in our study of Daniel 9:24-26, in the desolation of Jerusalem, which Daniel 9:26 calls “the city and the sanctuary.” Though unseen by the eye, there is a fierce battle raging on for the ownership of our body, the temple of God. Paul tells us in these verses:
2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God."
This is that man of sin, the son of perdition, who wants to sit in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God, and the same is also that “little horn” of Daniel 7:8 whom Daniel prophesied that made war with the saints, and prevailed against them:
Daniel 7:21 "I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;"
Then, Daniel goes on to tell us in Daniel 7:25 that he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws, and the saints will be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time, or 3.5 years. Who are the saints of the most High? Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:12 “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:” Collectively, the saints of the most High are the body of Christ, the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. To wear out something means it will take time. The war against the body of Christ will be a protracted war by which that man of sin, the son of perdition shall wear out the church of the living God High bit by bit and little by little. The enemy’s plan is to gradually change the truth of God into a lie, and in time to come, he shall wear out the pillar and ground of the truth.
Romans 1:25 "Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."
The bible tells us that the Devil is a serpent. Just like what God shows us of the things in nature, a serpent moves in imperceptible steps. He is very subtil, and he knows that a change can only develop by taking one imperceptible step at a time. He knows to operate in stages. Each change must be layered on top of what already exists and integrally wired to it. One inch forward will lead to another. One victory achieved will compound on another. He also knows to leverage on the power of the majority. Once a lie becomes the mainstream, it becomes the truth acknowledged by the great majority. Little by little and bit by bit, he gradually undermines the truth and extinguishes the lights out of the world. Paul tells us in this verse:
2 Thessalonians 2:7 "For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way."
There are things taking place in the background, subtly, to bring about a change, and they are happening “while men slept” according to Jesus in Matthew 13:25. The general population doesn’t know what’s happening, and it doesn’t even know that it doesn’t know. The mystery of iniquity is at work while men continue to sleep on. The great majority who are asleep are not aware of the Devil’s plan for mankind, all the while they live in ignorance. Just like what Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:14, they are being tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness. The Devil operates by deception. That is how he works to change the truth of God into a lie, by taking one imperceptible step at a time, and corrupting it slowly. True history must be rejected little by little; true science must be rejected little by little; true biblical doctrines must be rejected little by little, and the truth gradually re-interpreted based on what Paul tells us in this verse:
Colossians 2:8 "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."
These things are what the enemy use to replace the truth with. They are philosophy and vain deceit after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. In another words, they are not after every word of God in the 66 books of the Holy Bible (the truth), and if they are not after “the truth,” (Jesus) they are after a lie. Little by little, the lies work to “wear out” (Daniel 7:25) whatever faith you have in the truth. Little by little, that’s how the Devil works to change of truth of God into a lie, and change the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like unto corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things, like what Paul tells us in Romans 1:23, a picture of transhumanism in the literal sense. Remember what we read in:
Genesis 3:4-5 "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."
That was the Devil’s gospel to mankind, that we shall not surely die, because we shall be as little-g gods, knowing good and evil. It is true that little-g gods don’t die like man, just like what we read in Psalms 82:6-7. But to get from man to little-g gods, a change must happen bodily wise. Since Genesis 3, the war against mankind continues to rage on subtly in the background, but most people won’t notice it. Until their eyes are open to the written word of God, they will never really perceive this reality, which is more real than our physical existence. Daniel tells us in Daniel 9:26 that it is unto the end of the war that desolations would be determined. The time will come when the war between the “little horn” of Daniel 7:8 and the body of Christ shall come to an end, and the bible tells us in:
Daniel 8:23 "And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up."
The phrase “when the transgressors are come to the full” tells us of a time when the tares shall be fully separated from the wheat (via the mark of the beast) by which the temple of God would be hijacked. When that happens, the temple of our body will be made desolate, just like what Isaiah 17:1 tells us how Damascus was taken away from being a city, and made into a “ruinous heap.” This connects to the “city and the sanctuary” in Daniel 9:26. Remember how Jerusalem was made a desolation and laid to waste during the carrying away of Judah into Babylon? That is an example of what the bible tells us in Daniel 9:26 “… unto the end of the war desolations are determined.” Jeremiah tells us:
Jeremiah 9:11 "And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant."
Satan was the “great dragon” in Revelation 12:9. This verse tells us that when God made Jerusalem heaps, and the cities of Judah desolate, and without an inhabitant, it became a den of dragons. Likewise, when the temple of God shall be made desolate (via the mark of the beast), and without the Man Jesus Christ living inside, it becomes a den for that man of sin, the son of perdition who wants to sit in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Paul continues in these verses:
2 Thessalonians 2:7-8 "For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:"
Notice the words “until he be taken out of the way?” Jesus compares the church of the living God to the light of the world in Matthew 5:14, which are like cities set on an hill that cannot be hid. So, when the “city and the sanctuary” (Daniel 9:26) is made a desolation and without an inhabitant (Jesus Christ), when the light is extinguished, the temple of God becomes a “den of dragons” (Jeremiah 9:11) for that man of sin, the son of perdition. That would be when that “Wicked” of 2 Thessalonians 2:8 shall be revealed, the same which Daniel 8:23 refers to as a “king of fierce countenance” who shall stand up in the latter time of the fourth kingdom.
Jesus tells us in the parable of the tares and the wheat:
Matthew 13:30 "Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn."
Matthew 13:38-39 "The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels."
The time of the harvest, according to Jesus in Matthew 13:39, is the end of the world. This is a reference to Daniel 9:26 which tells us that “unto the end of the war desolations are determined.” The end of the world will be when the desolations are determined, the time when the separation of the tares from the wheat shall take place, and it would happen in the latter end of the fourth kingdom according to Daniel 8:23, when the transgressors are come to the full (when the mark of the beast has been implemented). The bible tells us in Daniel 2:43 that “they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men,” and seed being a genetic term tells us that the genes of mankind will be tampered with. Paul tells us in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 “except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.” The falling away must happen first, before “that Wicked” of 2 Thessalonians 2:8 shall be revealed. The temple of God must first be turned into a desolation (via the mark of the beast), and the Spirit of the Lord taken out of the way, before that man of sin, before the son of perdition can sit in what used to be the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. When that happens, the prophecy in Daniel 9:26 “… unto the end of the war desolations are determined” would be fulfilled. It is only by then, that the wheat would be clearly separated from the tares.
