I didn't know crabs would do that. Diabolical of them! Oh, wait. Many of us have acted the same way. May God have mercy on us!

What crabs are actually doing is a little misrepresented by our human interpretation of their instinctual actions. They are trying to climb out of the bucket but because there are so many of them in the bucket, they end up pulling the ones who are closer to escape back down to the bottom of the bucket so none of them end up escaping. They are trying to climb over one another to escape but only succeed in killing each other.

It would be more accurate to say they all die from lack of cooperation with one another. Being focused on only their own life they doom the entire bucket of crabs.

Though this is not unlike us as well. Like the drowning person who tries to unwittingly climb on top of the person who is trying to save them. Drowning them both.

Unfortunately this is what happens when we behave like animals instead of the children of God. Fortunately, unlike animals, we can choose rather than be compelled to obey base animal instincts.

Thank you, God, for the incredible gift of free will.

May we all be more like You and choose to help one another climb out of the bucket.

Jesus is the only escape.
