Study on Daniel 9:27 "... and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." (Part 4)
MP3 article voiceover included.
This bible study continues from where I have left off in Study on Daniel 9:27 "… and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." (Part 3), where I have discussed with backing from scripture, the sequence of events leading to the marriage supper of the Lamb, which according to Daniel 9:27 "even until the consummation." Paul tells us in these verses:
2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 "Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God."
The context of this passage of scripture is Paul by inspiration of the Holy Ghost describing the events leading to the day of the Lord ("day of Christ"). The day of the Lord is the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him. However, this cannot happen until a "falling away" (Greek: "apostasia") comes first, and that man of sin, the son of perdition be revealed. This is "that Wicked" of 2 Thessalonians 2:8 who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he has God sitteth in the temple of our bodies, shewing himself that he is God. Notice that Paul specifically mentioned “let no man deceive you” concerning the day of the Lord, meaning that a deception will be staged in connection to the timing of the return of Jesus Christ, and that exactly what Jesus told us in Matthew 24:23-26 to “believe it not” if any man shall say “Lo, here is Christ, or there.” The "falling away" (Greek: "apostasia") and "that Wicked" be revealed are connected events: the latter as a direct consequence of the former, and Paul has made it clear that these will be observable events. Jesus warns us in these passage of scripture:
Matthew 24:15-21 "When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes. 19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! 20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be."
Jesus tells us that we shall “see” the abomination of desolation, spoken by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place. The word "see" means that it would be an observable event. We are the “temple of God” according to Paul in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, and the "holy place" being the "temple of God" in 2 Thessalonians 2:4 means that “that Wicked” of 2 Thessalonians 2:8 shall sit in the temple of our bodies, shewing himself that he is God. The Devil wants to replace God by displacing the Spirit of the Lord from the temple of our bodies. John tells us in Revelation 13:16-17 that the false prophet shall cause the whole world to receive the mark of the beast, at which point, the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet shall stand in the temple of our bodies. When we see that happens, we are to flee, with utmost urgency, into the mountains, because there shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. That being said, it also signified the soon return of the Lord for the church, "for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready." (Revelation 19:7) Paul further tells us:
1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 "For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
This passage of scripture reveals the sequence of events of what is going to happen at the return of Jesus Christ: [1] the Lord shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; [2] the dead in Christ shall rise first; [3] then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. We compare this to what Jesus tells us in:
Matthew 24:29-31 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other."
Append this to the sequence of events surrounding the day of the Lord: [1] the "falling away" (Greek: "apostasia") spoken of by Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 at the implementation of the mark of the beast; [2] the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet stand in the "holy place" ("temple of God"); [3] a period of great tribulation spoken of by Jesus in Matthew 24:21; [4] immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken; [5] then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven; [6] the Lord shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God; [7] the dead in Christ shall rise first; and finally [8] we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. All these are part of the "doctrine of Christ:"
Hebrews 6:1-2 "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment."
The true gospel of Jesus Christ consists of these six things in the order of sequence: [1] repentance from dead works; [2] faith toward God; [3] baptisms; [4] laying on of hands; [5] resurrection of the dead; and [6] eternal judgment. The doctrine of the "resurrection of the dead" is part of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the reason why we see attacks coming from dispensationalism and preterism, both of which distort the sequence of events surroundng the resurrection of the dead and the rapture of the living. Preterism is a false dichotomy of dispensationalism, even though it may appear like they are opposing teachings: you can’t disprove dispensationalism with preterism, because both are false. Both dispensationalism and preterism were created by the Jesuits. Jesuits are the armed militia of the Roman Catholic Church originally sanctioned in 1540 by Pope Paul III with one mandate: to defeat Protestantism and regain worldwide Papal rule, but since then, their tentacles have spread far and wide.
Paul tells us in these two verses:
2 Timothy 2:17-18 "And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; 18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some."
"Canker" is another word for cancer. Here, Paul compares this kind of teachings to cancer: teachings which distort the timing or the sequence of events concerning the resurrection of the dead. Just like cancer, it will consume the seed of the word of God sown in the hearts of people, and cause the faith of some to be overthrown. We have a picture of that in the Parable of the Sower, in Luke 8:12 "Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved." By attacking the doctrine of the resurrection of the dead, by perverting the pure gospel of Jesus Christ, that is how the Devil is able to take away the word out of people’s heart, and overthrow the faith of some. There is a reason why dispensationalism is the official eschatology taught in most churches all over the world, and even Hollywood was promoting the pre-tribulation rapture in the 2014 movie "Left Behind."
2 Corinthians 4:3-4 "But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."
The gospel is hid from them that are lost. It doesn't matter if people call themselves Christians: they are lost if the true gospel of Jesus Christ be hidden from them, and Paul reveals that in these two verses, that it was the "god of this world" which hath blinded the minds of them which believe not. The gospel was hidden from these Christians because they believe not the written word of God on the first place. Like what we have read from the Parable of the Sower, that was also Satan which taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. Paul further tells us in:
2 Thessalonians 2:8-12 "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."
This passage of scripture begins by telling us about "that Wicked" which shall be revealed at some point, when apostate churches shall fall away as dead branches from the true vine (Jesus) after they receive the mark of the beast. Notice in verse 9 the words "whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders." There are many churches and Christians whose profession in the faith of Jesus Christ is nothing but an empty shell. They would be like those that Jesus describe in this verse:
John 4:48 "Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe."
The keywords to note here is "except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe." There is a reason why the coming of that man of sin, the son of perdition is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonder, just like what Paul tells us in 2 Thessalonians 2:9. The written word of God has no effect on Christians and churches who are not searching for the truth, but whose ravening eyes are constantly on a look out for signs and wonders. The Devil knew exactly how to make them believe in a lie: that is also God sending those Christians strong delusion that they should believe in a lie, that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. According to the system of doctrine of dispensationalism, the current age is the so-called "dispensation of Grace," and this dispensation is set to end at the pre-tribulation rapture whereby Christians would be literally removed from the earth and be transferred to the safety of heaven at the onset of the seven years of tribulation. Then, just like what we see in the 2014 "Left Behind" movie, the whole earth would descend into great chaos, after which, the Antichrist shall make his appearance.
The current dispensation is called "dispensation of Grace" because it signifies a new age (ryhmes with the "New Age" cult) which began when God the Father made a total transit from his requirements under the "dispensation of Law" into a brand new dispensation. In the current "dispensation of Grace," God the Father is no longer focused on the requirements of the Law, but would unconditionally forgive sin for anyone who professes Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. This doctrine goes hand in gloves with the Charismatic Church in helping them establish confidence in their version of the gospel which teaches that it is God’s will for Christians to receive health and wealth the moment they professed or accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour: they call that the “grace of God” according to their gospel. Those Christians, in general, do not believe in suffering for Christ or for the word’s sake. On the contrary, they believe that Christ suffered once to make them healthy and wealthy for ever. That is the "prosperity gospel" in a nutshell that they are teaching to the countless millions worldwide.
Luke 8:13 "They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away."
Christians who are "saved" by believing in the prosperity gospel do not see themselves as potential candidates of the “falling away” (Greek: "apostasia") in 2 Thessalonians 2:3. Interestingly, a similar term "fall away" is found in the Parable of the Sower, in Luke 8:13, which points to the stony ground heart. A stony ground heart is one, which for a while believe, but in the time of temptation, would turn apostate. That in itself is a prophecy that Christendom in the last days would primarily be made up of believers with stony ground hearts, in preparation of the great apostasy that the Devil has prepared for the church. Believers with stony ground hearts will not endure tribulation, and so when the mark of the beast shall be implemented, we can expect that the great majority of churches will submit to the demands of the False Prophet. The prosperity gospel being underpinned by a dispensational view that now is the “dispensation of Grace” means that Christians “saved” in the current dispensation will never have to endure tribulation or suffer from persecution because it is not the will of God for the gentile church to suffer for the gospel’s sake.
Just like what we see in the 2014 “Left Behind” movie, they believe that the gentile church would be raptured before the mark of the beast, and so they could escape the terror reign of the Antichrist. That in turn becomes a motivation for their soul-winning: more people must be saved during the “dispensation of Grace” so that less people will suffer when the tribulation comes. They also believe that believers saved during the “dispensation of Grace” have been saved to the uttermost by grace through faith in Jesus, and grace covers health and wealth as part of their salvation. Christians saved by the prosperity gospel love the prosperty gospel because it constantly reassures them with an illusion of "peace and safety." Yet, Paul gave us a stern warning here:
1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 "For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape."
In every Charismatic church you go to, you will hear them preach grace and peace, and in all other dispensational churches you go to, you will hear them preach safety in the form of the pre-tribulation rapture. As a matter of fact, I have not come across a Charismatic church which is not dispensational in their doctrines. The Charismatic Church by far and large embrace the doctrine of decisionism developed by Charles G. Finney in the 1800s as their doctrine of salvation. Christians "saved" under the doctrine of decisionism generally view the sinner's prayer they prayed as a guarantee of their salvation, and that they will never have to endure tribulation or persecution because they are no longer under Law, but “under Grace,” meaning that, it is no longer the will of God for them to suffer from repercussions for breaking the Law in the “Age of Grace” (“dispensation of Grace”). They have also adopted the belief that they will be raptured before the seven years of tribulation comes. Yet, if you probe further, you may be quite surprised to find out that many of them know nothing about dispensationalism which their doctrines are based upon. Jesus gave a sign in this verse concerning the end of the world:
Matthew 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."
The sign that Jesus gave is that the gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world unto all nations, and this will happen before the end come: the "falling away" (Greek: "apostasia") via the mark of the beast that Paul had prophesied in 2 Thessalonians 2:3. How did the gospel get preached in all the world unto all nations? The Charismatic Church only had its beginnings at the turn of the 20th century, but now, they are already numbered in the hundreds of millions, and are only second to the Roman Catholic Church in terms of sheer size. They are currently the church of the vast majority and the face of Christianity to the unbelieving world.
Jesus tells us in these two verses:
Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."
This passage of scripture is in itself, a prophecy of the "falling away" (Greek: "apostasia") that Paul has prophesied will happen in tandem with the implementation of the mark of the beast. There is a wide gate and a broad way that leadeth to destruction, and many will go in thereat. In fact, we have a figure of that in John 6:66 "From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him." The great majority of the disciples went back, and walked no more with Jesus because of the hard sayings they found it hard to accept. Only the few who continued with Jesus made it to the strait gate and the narrow way that leadeth unto life. It will be the same with Christendom in the last days: most Christians will choose "another gospel" (2 Corinthians 11:4; Galatians 1:6) over the true gospel of Jesus Christ. They would rather live with the illusion of "peace and safety" than to search for the "Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6) in the written word of God. The "love of money" (1 Timothy 6:10) will ensure that they will choose the prosperity gospel and fall into the snare the Devil has prepared for them.
Of course, it is not just the Charismatic Church, but all churches with dispensational leanings will find it hard to accept the truth of the gospel, even many of the "conservative" ones. According to wikipedia, "a pre-tribulational rapture view is most commonly found among American Fundamentalist Baptists, Bible churches, Brethren churches, certain Methodist denominations, Pentecostals, non-denominational evangelicals, and various other evangelical groups." Some of them still preach from the 1611 King James Bible, but their doctrines are not conservative at all. Of all these churches, perhaps the ones associated with Jack Hyles have promoted dispensational teachings more aggressively than all others. The Southern Baptists too, are highly dispensational in their teachings, and a great many of them are freemasons. Among the more well-known dispensationalists are Pastor John MacArthur who taught that you could receive the mark of the beast and still go to heaven. Some wolves in sheep clothing prefer to hide their identities by calling out other less pretentious counterparts, and so it is not uncommon to see some of the rightwing churches calling out the less pretentious leftwing ones for their errors, but are silent to their own.
Matthew 12:38-39 "¶ Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:"
This passage of scripture connects to what the bible tells us in John 4:48 "Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe." To be noted here is that the scribes and Pharisees sought after a sign from Jesus, to which, he rebuked them saying "an evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign." The scribes and Pharisees sought after a sign because they believe not the word of God. It is the same with the pharisaical churches of today who are looking for signs and wonders: they would not endure sound doctrine. It is common knowledge that Charismatic churches seek after signs and wonders. In fact, the third wave of the Charismatic Movement which began in the 1980s was called the “Signs and Wonders Movement.” This was a name coined by Professor C. Peter Wagner at the Fuller Theological Seminary. He referred to this movement as the "third wave" because this was the third of the three distinct Pentecostal/Charismatic movements in modern Christianity.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables."
The first wave was the original Pentecostal Movement that began in the early 1900s with the teachings of Charles Parham followed by the Azusa Street Revival. The second wave then came in the 1960s with the Charismatic Movement. In the Charismatic Movement, Pentecostal doctrines, teachings, and practices began to spread to non-Pentecostal churches and denominations. This wave brought increased popularity to the “Word of Faith” teachings that are still popular today. Then, in the 1980s, another “Movement of the Holy Spirit” supposedly characterized by “signs and wonders” began in the Vineyard Church with the teachings of John Wimber, Mike Bickle, C. Peter Wagner, Jack Deere, and others. Professor Wagner characterized this third wave as being “a new moving of the Holy Spirit among evangelicals who, for one reason or another, have chosen not to identify with either the Pentecostals or Charismatics.” Also known as the Neo-Charismatic Movement, this third wave of Pentecostal doctrine became very popular and has led to many aberrant teachings such as the Toronto Blessing and laughing in the Spirit.
Matthew 22:29 "Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God."
Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."
In addition to highlighting some of the melodramatic practices of the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, the third wave goes even further with its emphasis on the sensational, including claims of signs and wonders performed by modern-day apostles and prophets. Key teachings of the Signs and Wonders Movement include what is known as “power evangelism.” The basic premise of power evangelism is that the preaching of the gospel must be accompanied by signs and wonders in order for people to respond in faith to the gospel. Proponents of this view focused on miracles, speaking in tongues, healing, and prophecy. There is little emphasis on labouring in the written word of God. it is therefore of little surprise that they had missed the fact that scriptures alone is the power of God unto salvation. Instead of hearing from the written word of God in the 66 books of the Holy Bible, they rather believe that the Spirit of God is still speaking directly through modern-day prophets and apostles. In that sense, the authority of the written word of God has been undermined by the revelation of men. As with all Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, personal experience plays a greater role for determining the truth than does sound doctrine, making those Christians easy targets for the grand deception. In Part 3, I have discussed from scripture, how that during the great tribulation, the enemy shall attempt to deceive the church with the illusion of Christ's return:
Matthew 24:23-26 "Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 25 Behold, I have told you before. 26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not."
Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:7 "(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)" So, except for the true elect of God who walk by faith in the written word of God, the great majority of Christendom which walk by their sight shall be deceived, and those would be the pharisaical churches all over the world which would not endure sound doctrine, but seeketh after a sign. To the scribes and the Pharisees, Jesus rebuked in Matthew 15:14 "Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch." In today's context, those would be the blind leaders of the pharisaical churches leading the congregation of blind believers, and the word used here is "both shall fall into the ditch." That is a reference to the "falling away" (Greek: "apostasia") that Paul had prophesied in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 that would happen in tandem with the implementation of the mark of the beast. They fall away because of their blindness to the written word of God. Instead of walking by faith in the written word of God, they were going by their sight, making them easy targets for the Devil.
Ephesians 4:14 "That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;"
The "falling away" (Greek: "apostasia") of 2 Thessalonians 2:3 would be characterized by the great majority in Christendom being deceived by the enemy. Going by their sight, that means those Christians would be carried about with every wind of doctrine. Earlier, I have talked about how the authority of the written word of God has been undermined by the revelation of men in Charismatic churches. As a result, except for God's elect whose faith is rooted in the written word of God, the great majority of Christendom shall be tossed to and fro by the sleight of men, and by cunning craftiness of the enemy, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. They shall be deceived, and that is also God the Father giving them over to strong delusion that they should believe in a lie, because they receive not the love of "the truth" (Jesus), that they might be saved. To continue in Part 5.
